Media Meme Goes Mainstream: Republicans Are Nuts !!!

What the "elite" has been whispering to each other in the salons, in the newsrooms, in the parlors, in the corridors of "power", has burst loose like water crashing through a dam, as their concerns about the disruption of the "old ways" of doing DC business by the new Republican vanguard has turned to sheer panic, infused with a bitter hatred.

The meme: Those Republicans who dare to stand on principle are...psychotic.  Or idiots.  Or religious nuts.  Or Muslims terrorists. Or all of the above.

Seriously.  We'll start with neo-Socialist Harold Meyerson in the WaPo:

What makes the California Republicans’ intransigence so loony — “idiotic” is, I think, not too strong a term....Today’s Republicans remind me of some leaders of the American Communist Party...

Takes one to know one, I suppose. Here's wannabe liberal David Brooks at the New York Times:

...the Republican Party may no longer be a normal party. Over the past few years, it has been infected by a faction that is more of a psychological protest...The members of this movement have no sense of moral decency....

What is decent, I suppose, is sthe tatus quo. Makes Brooks' job easier, after all - he can just keep phoning it in the same platitudes as he does twice weekly without ever having to, you know...think.

And speaking of crazy, here's Chris Matthews on Hardball:

“Also, is the Republican Party willing to risk economic Armageddon in the name of religion?” Matthews asked. “That is the religion of no taxes. Well the GOP has become the Wahhabis of American government, willing to bring down the whole country in the service of their anti-tax ideology. This is no phony crisis. If you’re not careful — if we’re not careful, the country risks becoming Greece. Not ancient Greece, by the way, current Greece.”

Right. So be careful, and do nothing. Which will lead us turning into...Greece. Not ancient Greece, by the way, current Greece.  Brought there by....Republicans, who are religious nuts. Wait!  I meant economic nuts!

When we are not being Communists, of course.  With no sense of moral decency.

Strange that all three of these remarks were made on the same day (yesterday).  One might think their was almost a type of collusion going on, a "Journo-list", if I may...

Even stranger that all three of these men admit there is a serious crisis afoot, yet all three want the Republicans to compromise with the very party whose philosophy created it in the first place.  Seems as if all of these panicked pundits truly fear the same thing: The resurgence of a conservative America, where their voices, once filled with self-congratulatory self-importance, will now echo, unheard, in empty valleys...

UPDATE:  NewsBeast editor Tina Brown is down with the sickness, as she likens the GOP to suicide bombers on MSNBC this morning.  What to you expect from a Clinton synchophant? It's all the same crew...
